Deep Time Travel: Sea Stacks & Cosmic Loops

This lonely sea stack is my favourite in Orkney. It’s not very grand compared to others you can find here, but it has a character that draws me in, especially at sunset.

As I circle its base, I think of everything it has witnessed—innumerable storms and silences stretching back far beyond human memory.

Compared to the immense length of its existence, my life will flash by in an instant. But time and tide will eventually wash it away too. Ultimately, we are both rooted in the same eternal cycle.

My worries dissolve, and time slows. I feel grounded, anchored to the present moment. I’m reminded that I am just a visitor—a brief spark in a landscape that breathes across millennia. I find peace in belonging to something enduring, braided into one great cosmic loop.
